Lahaina is on the hawaiian island of Maui. It lies on the western shore of the Valley Isle. You can check out all fun bits of history around Lahaina, like remnants of the sugar industry, the whaling industry and one huge banyan tree! It’s a small town, but well worth checking out if you’re going to take a vacation on the island of Maui.

The Valley Isle has plenty of reporting outlets! There are dailies and weekly newspaper all over Maui. The Maui Weekly has a great website for Maui news from Kihei. The Maui News scoops up the news from Wailuku. The Lahaina News updates weekly from the lovely town of Lahaina. Haleakala Times bills itself as Maui’s Free Press and focuses on environmental and cultural awareness in Maui County.

Some facts about Maui

Maui is the 2nd largest island in the Hawaiian chain. Maui county consists of 4 islands, Maui, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, and Molokaʻi. There’s also the little crescent shaped Molokini. The color for Maui is Akala (pink). Maui is also known as the Valley Isle and a lot of the sand on Waikiki is really shipped over from Maui, threatening the sand dunes in the valley. Maui shares its name with the demi-god Maui who raised the islands from the sea in Hawaiian legend.

Why would you want to go to Maui? Why wouldn’t you? You can surf, check out whales or just enjoy the amazing scenery. The old whaling port of Lahaina is a big tourist destination. You can drive the Road to Hana. You can watch the sunrise at Haleakala and zoom down the hill on a bicycle.
