Maui is the 2nd largest island in the Hawaiian chain. Maui county consists of 4 islands, Maui, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, and Molokaʻi. There’s also the little crescent shaped Molokini. The color for Maui is Akala (pink). Maui is also known as the Valley Isle and a lot of the sand on Waikiki is really shipped over from Maui, threatening the sand dunes in the valley. Maui shares its name with the demi-god Maui who raised the islands from the sea in Hawaiian legend.
Why would you want to go to Maui? Why wouldn’t you? You can surf, check out whales or just enjoy the amazing scenery. The old whaling port of Lahaina is a big tourist destination. You can drive the Road to Hana. You can watch the sunrise at Haleakala and zoom down the hill on a bicycle.
